WGHS Beautification

A special thanks to Sharon May and Cheri Albright for all the time coordinating, planning, and selecting planters and fillers for placement around the school.

Thanks also goes to Tina O”Brien and Lynn Stowe and Cheri Albright for helping with the work day.
Coach Causey and the football team were also really helpful because they spread all of the bales of pinestraw in the courtyard and cafeteria areas.
Gin Reid Hall delivered a thank you note and “special treat” for the players in acknowledgement of their service to the school.  Word has it they have been doing other things to “spruce up the campus this summer”.
Another volunteer named Heidi Pegram (who has a freshman this year and is a curriculum facilitator at Peeler) has come by on several occasions to dust the trophy cases.  Her hard work is evident and the cases she has worked on are much improved in appearance.
Please try to spread the word to seniors that you know.

The PTSO and Western Guilford are trying to collect after graduation caps and gowns from anyone willing to donate theirs to be used next year by students needing financial assistance.  Don’t shove that cap and gown into a drawer or the attic.  Put it to good use.  As many of you know, there can be a good bit of expense associated with graduation and senior year.  Please help all our students participate in graduation.

There will be a box near by where diplomas will be handed to graduating students after the ceremony on Sunday at the Special Events Center.  There will also be a box in the Counseling Office at Western Guilford.  Ms. Trevino, Dean of Students, is also willing to collect the caps and gowns.

We appreciate your help!  Maureen

The staff of Western Guilford High School would like to express our appreciation and gratitude to you for all that you have done to support us during this academic year and in particular, for the lovely meals, treats, and prizes that you provided to us last week during Teacher Appreciation Week.  What a wonderful change from the norm to be able to enjoy lunch and breakfast while pleasantly conversing with our colleagues and friends!  Those who won door prizes last Friday are especially thankful for your generosity.

Thank you again for your support as we strive to provide the Western community with a meaningful educational experience!

Sincerely,

The Staff of Western Guilford High School

Street Safe Program

Street Safe Us is a driving program being conducted at Western Guilford on Saturday March 13th from 1:30pm to 5:30pm. It basically is a program operated by Law Enforcement to teach an inexperienced driver to deal with road emergencies that are not taught in Basic Driver Education. Students actually experience losing control of a vehicle at 25 mph, how the use of cell phones or other devices become a driving distraction. They also experience what kind of vision truck drivers have of them when driving beside of them in another lane. They experience driving with under the influence goggles, and stopping on both wet and dry surfaces. This is a court ordered program for some young offenders on Saturday morning, but they are willing to do a class of just inexperienced drivers on Saturday afternoon.  Registration is online at www.streetsafeus.com

You can also email  doug@streetsafeus.com for more detail. The cost is $30.00 and is highly recommended for all teens from 15 years old and up.

Please consider having your teens experience this. It may be beneficial in actually saving a life.
